Weekly Savings

Unfortunately the computer part only fixed part of the problem with the laptop.  The power cord is now recognized but still will not power the computer.  I am still working on it but am not hopeful.  At least doing all of the work/troubleshooting ourselves is a very frugal thing.

I made a half gallon of yogurt for $2.76 which was the cost of the milk and a starter cup of yogurt.  I now have my own starter which will save money for next time.  The yogurt turned out perfectly and has a much milder taste than store bought yogurt.

I bought a bunch of green onions at the grocery store.  After I used the tops in some recipes and then planted the onions in the garden.

It seems much of my money saving is food related.  This week I made refried beans using dried beans and a few items I had on hand.  I made salad dressings for myself & W.  I prefer vinaigrettes while he likes ranch.

W and I combined our errands and made just one trip into town this past week.  It meant that I spent a bit more time in town since W’s doctor appointment took some time, but we saved gas and spent some time together.

We spent nothing for Valentine’s Day.  W washed dishes for me twice which was better than a roomful of roses.  I love to cook but hate to clean up the dirty dishes.  I do it of course.  It is a nice treat when W does it for me though.

W cut down a rotting pear tree, and we have been using it for firewood.

I waiting until the weather improved to do laundry.  I hung out all of the clothes outside or on racks in the house.  I use vinegar as a fabric softener.

I baked the last pumpkin from the garden on one of the colder days this week.  It helped warm the back of the house.  Most of the pumpkin went into the freezer.  I used two cups to make pumpkin cinnamon rolls with the intention of testing out a thrifted bread machine.  The machine works great and will be stored as a back-up.  I shared the cinnamon rolls with several neighbors.

I took advantage of an online coupon code to purchase a few tv shows on DVD.  I purchased four seasons (used) for about $6 per season.  The same place had a coupon code for used video games later in the week.  I ordered a couple of games on W’s wish list for his birthday.  Neither of us mind used items which often save a significant amount of money.

I was pleased that the electric bill was only $20 higher for the time we used the heater in the greenhouse.  I had set aside extra money last month to cover this extra expense.  Replacing just one of the large pineapple plants would have cost more than $20.

My savings are often food related tool but that's ok, we all have to eat.
