Weekly Savings

Last week ended up with a major change of plans on Monday after lunch.  Sometimes other people are more important than a to do list.  My plans (including blogging) were pushed aside.

I waited until the sun came out to do laundry.  I did dry the bed sheets in the dryer as allergy season has arrived.  This is more frugal in the long run as it keeps both W and myself from suffering.

Errands were combined with a necessary trip to town.  We have been driving less, and neither of us purchased gas in the past two weeks.

I cooked food to share with a grieving family.  All of the ingredients were items that I had on hand.  Most meals were cooked at home.  The one meal we ate out gave us enough leftovers for a second meal.

I was able to watch the conference basketball tournament online for free.  Further proof that a pricey satellite subscription is not needed.  I also watched Duke 's first round game for free.  Since they lost, I am only checking scores for the other games.

I discovered some spearmint growing again in an old raised bed.  I dug up a portion and planted it in a pot.  I now have four types of mint.  I am looking forward to making my own herbal teas this year.

I am in charge of Operation Christmas Child at my church and am keeping an eye out for deals on items to include in the boxes.  I was able to get four tubes of toothpaste free this past week.  A church member who travels often for work gave me several bars of hotel soap.  I put four bars in a bag, and they equaled the weight of one regular bar.  He gave enough soap for two boxes, which is two less that will need to be bought.  Even better is the excitement of the children in my Bible class.  I love to hear their weekly discussions when I update them on our progress.

Even a hectic week allows for opportunities to save money.  I did not do as much as I had hoped last week.  It is better to focus on the good than beat myself up over the shortcomings.

Can you please share how you watch the tournament online? I'm sure my husband would love to watch it!

Amanda, for the regional tournaments, I search the conference and watch through there. For March Madness you can watch any game shown on CBS for free. For the games featured on cable channels there is a time limit so you have to choose carefully. It is per computer so if you have more than one computer you should be able to get the time limit reset for each one.

Dawn you did all right for a busy week. I wondered if you were getting basketball tournaments and thought of you when I heard that Duke lost to Mercer (!)...
