Feathered Friday

Actually there are no feathers in this Feathered Friday post.  I wanted to share a picture of three eggs I collected this past week.  The bottom egg is a bantam egg which is normally a bit smaller.  When cooking I typically use 2 bantam eggs for each large egg in a recipe.  The middle egg is a normal large chicken egg.  The top egg is an extra-extra-large egg.  I feel a bit sorry for the poor hen who laid it.

When W cracked open the supersized egg, it had two yolks in it.  These are rare but I usually see a couple each year.  I read in a magazine recently that the chance of getting a double yolk egg is 1 in 1,000.  I actually have a spot in the refrigerator for the eggs that are too big to go in a carton.  This was definitely one of those!!

Garden Update

I took some pictures in the greenhouse and garden yesterday.  Many of the herbs I planted are sprouting.

I have some marigold seed sprouting.  These will go in with the vegetables to help repel bugs.

I have some lettuce sprouts.

I also have tomato and pepper sprouts.  Many of the tomato sprouts are ready to transplanted into larger pots this week.

W bought me some mint plants.  I now have peppermint, sweet mint, and chocolate mint.

It is a good thing I have no phobias about lizards.  I have many living inside the greenhouse.  Here are just a couple that I saw.

Last week I harvested another 8 ounces of sprouts bringing my total to 1 pound for the year.  Not a huge harvest so far, but it is only February.
